In terms of the value of its geographical and historical features. Altinova, one of the important centres on the coast of Marmara. is the town in the farthest eastern part of the city. Altinova borders with Karamursel town of Kocaeli in the west with Orhangazi town of Bursa in the south. Dil iskelsi, locaded in the furthermost northern part of the town became the crossing point of historical routes for centuries. The pilgrims on their route to Mecca and caravans travelling on the Silk road always passed through Altinova. The village referred to as Hersek today, which houses a mosque and a bath built by Hersekzade Ahmet Pasa, is believed to be remains of ancient Helenapolis.
The center of the town was assembled by fourty Turkish families migrated from the city of Ruscuk in Bulgaria in 1929.The population of the town increased and developed with the migrating people from Eastern Blacksea and Eastern Anatolia regions.As a result of this development, the disctrict managed yo—to possess the status of a municipality. As Yalova gained the status of a city, Altinova simultaneously gained the status of a town in 1995 with three small towns and twelve lovely villages connected to it.
The name of the town comes from plains that gradually become more fertile as you go down the coast. The most important river of the town is Yalakdere, which carries the water it collects from the neigbourhood of Mounth Samanli down to the Sea of Marmara. Many small and big rivers accompany Yalakdere in its voyage, thus forming the Delta of Hersek. The disctrict is mainly composed of mideum height Platos.
The most important source of income of the town is fruit growing and trade. The independent industrial sectors of meskun eternity, ipek kagit (paper tissue factory) and various marble factories provide more and more employment and help the trade in the region go up. Altinova is also exclusively well known for its flower and decorative plant growing. The 65 percent of the flowers and decorative plants in the country are grown here in Altinova.
