THERMAL SPRINGS

The Thermal Springs have been the­re at least since three thousand years. According to the some historians, the curative and health-giving thermal waters were discovered as a result of a landsilide occur­red at B.C. 2000. Since the ancient ages,the region where the thermals stands is called by different names.such as, Pythia, pylai, Hinopolis. in the Ottoman Period, this region was called as "Hammam(Hamam) or "Hamam Mount-(Dag Hamami) because of the thermals.

The archaelogical findings reveal that the first and serious reconstructions had been made by East Roman Emperors; n and Justinianus. And some of the Ot­toman Sultans had those thermals restored and ordered new thermals to be built next to the old ones. Ataturk is really very important for the thermal springs, in his time, the thermals began to be seen as "Works of Art". Ataturk adopted Termal as the summer capital, had it roads built and financed all kinds of restorations and repairs.

With all its magnificient natural beauty and rich natural resources, Yalova is simply a theraphy centre and is a con­tender to be the water city of the future.
