According to Evliya Celebi the traveller, the name Armutlu co­mes from the best and most delicious pears grown in the whole region. Armutlu borders with Gemlik town of Bursa in the east and with Cinarcik in the northeast. The north, south and .west parts of the town is bounded by the Sea of Marmara. Ar­mutlu located in the furthest west part of Yalova, is also won­derfully connects Yalova to the Sea of Marmara. It harbours some small and big bays and capes. The quality and beauty Is sea and coastal line is a magnet for tens of thousands of visitors every year. Though the thermal springs here were noticed well after Termal in Yalova, they managed to be in gre­at demand in short span of time. The water in the thermal springs here is the one with highest level of radioactivity in the country. Together with all these qualities, the town helped the od property system to flourish. 

With its up to 70 percent ratio, Armutlu is the most mountai­nous town in the region. The branches of Mount Samanli are stretched as far as Bozborun located the furthest in the west. 

Vallaies are formed thanks to rivers streaming down from ,he Mounts of Karlik, Taz and Erikli. The main river in the town is kaledere that flows through the town. The other rivers are: Yamandere and Uzundere in the village of Kapakli, which are poured out into the sea. As one goes futher away from the co­ast, the looming pine tree forests offer a magnificient scenery and excursion spot. It is possible to go for hunting up in the higher and inner parts in winters.

According to historical documents. Armutlu is one of the ear­liest centres of settlement. The town was captured by the Ot­tomans in 1320 and Turkmens from Mudanya and Trilye were allowed to settle down here. Some of the immigrants who escaped from the Russion invasion in Georgia at the end of 19th century were also allowed to settle down here in armutlu. Armutlu gained the status of a town in 1995 with five villages connected itself.
